Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has unveiled plans to distribute N3 billion to victims of last year’s devastating floods in the state.
During the 23rd State Executive Council meeting held at the Kano Government House on Wednesday, Yusuf explained that the funds were part of a federal intervention for the 2024 flood disaster, allocated to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that the funds were received months earlier and carefully managed to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries.
“We have identified the genuine victims and documented how much each person is entitled to. With these preparations in place, the distribution will now commence,” Yusuf said.
The governor disclosed that committees had been inaugurated to oversee the disbursement of funds across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas, ensuring efficiency in reaching those affected.
Efforts to identify flood-hit areas and victims were carried out in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and international donor organizations, emphasizing a transparent and inclusive process.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability, Yusuf said, “We are dedicated to providing relief to flood victims and helping them rebuild their lives through prudence and responsiveness in managing resources.”
