Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the Governor of the Year award in Infrastructure Development at the 15th African Achievers Award held at the House of Lords, Westminster Palace in London.
The award, presented by the Deputy Mayor of London, Mr. Mete Coban, was in recognition of what the organisers described as the governor’s commitment to modernizing Kano through major road construction, urban renewal initiatives, and the rehabilitation of key public facilities.
A statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, noted that Governor Yusuf was represented at the event by Usman Bala, mni, Special Adviser on State Affairs, and Mr. Bature himself, who also serves as the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Kano.
While receiving the award on behalf of Governor Yusuf, Usman Bala said the honour speaks to the governor’s commitment to inclusive growth. “This recognition underscores Governor Yusuf’s dedication to prioritizing infrastructure that touches the lives of millions across Kano,” he said.
The African Achievers Award is considered one of the continent’s notable platforms for honouring leaders and institutions driving measurable impact in leadership, development, and social innovation.
The 2025 edition also recognised the Governor of Benue State and the King of Zolu Nation in South Africa, signalling what the organisers called “a diversity of excellence in leadership across the continent.”
The Kano Governor’s recognition, according to the statement, “reaffirms Kano State’s emergence as a model for infrastructure-driven governance in Nigeria.”
