The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects worth ₦14.83 billion to boost development in health, infrastructure, water supply, and rural communities.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, told journalists after the council meeting that the approvals reflect Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s “people-centred development agenda.”
The Ministry of Works got the largest share—over ₦11.8 billion—for major projects, including the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage into a Female Drug Reformatory Institute and the construction of a Transit Centre in Gaya at ₦1.38 billion.
The council also revoked and re-awarded the Jaba–Gayawa Road contract for ₦3.75 billion; the dualisation of the Dakata–Yadakunya (Bela) Road at ₦6.15 billion; and the construction of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA at ₦522 million.
The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning received ₦882.9 million, including ₦129 million for printing security documents at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC, and ₦754 million for expanded works.
The Ministry of Health got over ₦1.66 billion for projects such as the renovation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital (₦364.5m), upgrades at the School of Health Technology, Bebeji (₦294.5m), solar installations at five maternity centres (₦114m), and the supply of drugs to major hospitals (₦112.3m). Additional works will be done at Zakirai PHC and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The Ministry of Water Resources was allocated ₦310 million for diesel and PMS supply in February 2025 to keep water services running, while the Ministry for Rural and Community Development got ₦169.6 million to rehabilitate five mini earth dams in Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi LGAs.
In a related development, the council ratified a supplementary and amended 2025 budget of ₦889.28 billion—up by over ₦169.5 billion from the ₦719.76 billion earlier approved.
Waiya said the revised budget targets emerging priorities and better service delivery. “These decisions reflect a strategic vision for a better Kano. We urge citizens to stay engaged and vigilant as we work together to achieve progress,” he added.
