Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State.
The registration, which took place on Monday, followed an earlier announcement by Atiku during a meeting with ADC supporters and stakeholders in the state at the weekend.
Mr Abdul Rasheeth, an aide to the former vice president, confirmed the development in a statement made available to newsmen.
Videos from the event showed Atiku’s convoy arriving to a large crowd of supporters who displayed placards, sang and beat drums in his honour. Atiku acknowledged the crowd as he received his ADC membership card.
In a short post on his X handle shortly after the event, Atiku wrote: “It’s official. –AA”.
The development comes months after Atiku publicly endorsed the ADC in July as a coalition platform for opposition leaders, including Mr Peter Obi and Mr Babachir Lawal, to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Until Monday, Atiku and other opposition figures had not completed their formal registration with the party.
The former vice president’s registration is expected to boost the ADC’s profile and further reposition the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
