The new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, has announced plans to introduce degree programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Networking, Cloud Computing, and other emerging fields.
Speaking during an interactive session with university staff, Prof. Gumel said the initiative is part of his administration’s drive to modernize curricula and align academic programs with global standards.
“In order to achieve academic excellence in the 21st century, there is a need to revise and modernize our curricula to meet National Universities Commission (NUC) benchmarks and global standards in digital pedagogy,” he said.
“Part of this plan is to introduce new and on-demand programs such as AI and Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Networking, Cloud Computing, Project Management, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain, Geology, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Community Health, Science Education, and Business Education, among others.”
Prof. Gumel emphasized his administration’s “Vision 2030,” aimed at positioning FUD as a nationally and globally competitive university.
“Our goal is to offer market-driven and cutting-edge academic programs that will make our graduates employable and also creators of employment. Academic staff will need to brace themselves and embrace this new wave of change in terms of academic programs and other far-reaching reforms we intend to pursue over the next five years,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in the university’s capacity to implement these reforms.
“FUD has the manpower and the political will to undertake initiatives that will position the university prominently on the global stage. With competitive academic programs, cutting-edge research, and productive global partnerships, FUD can strengthen its place among universities ranked in the big league,” he said.
