Kuwait’s defence ministry said on Monday that several U.S. warplanes have crashed in the country, though all crew members survived. Kuwaiti authorities are assisting in rescue operations, according to Al Jazeera.
The exact number of aircraft involved and the cause of the crashes remain unclear. Local media reports suggest the planes may have been brought down by Iranian weapons amid ongoing hostilities with the United States. Video footage released by Al Jazeera showed one of the fighter jets crashing.
Kuwait is among several Middle East countries affected by Iranian missile attacks targeting U.S. bases and facilities. Other countries reportedly hit include Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
The U.S. has confirmed that three American soldiers have been killed and at least five others seriously injured in the attacks.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities say more than 300 people have died in U.S. and Israeli strikes, while Israel has reported at least 10 fatalities from Iranian missile attacks.
The conflict escalated on Saturday when U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran. Iran has since retaliated with missile attacks against U.S. and Israeli positions in the region.
