The Kano State Executive Council has approved ₦61.63bn for a wide range of development projects cutting across education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and urban renewal.
The approvals were made at the Council’s 39th meeting held at the Government House, Kano.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the decisions reflected the administration’s commitment to improving public services and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
“The decisions reflect the administration’s strong commitment to improving public services and accelerating socio-economic development across the state,” Waiya said, adding that the approvals followed extensive deliberations on governance priorities aimed at improving living standards and expanding access to essential services.
In the education sector, the government approved over ₦4.45bn for the payment of external examination fees for students sitting for NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS examinations in 2026. It also approved ₦2bn for the procurement of school furniture across 30 local government areas, as well as funds for classroom construction, renovation and upgrades in Makoda, Tarauni, Ajingi and Minjibir local government areas.
Waiya further disclosed that the Council approved funds to settle outstanding liabilities on examination fees between 2020 and 2023, alongside feeding costs in boarding schools.
In the health sector, the Council approved the renovation of Wudil General Hospital and procurement of medical equipment for major health facilities. It also endorsed funding for routine immunisation, polio outbreak response across all 44 local government areas, and free maternal, neonatal and child healthcare services in 484 primary healthcare centres.
On infrastructure, over ₦5.2bn was approved for the construction of the road linking Panshekara Underpass to Madobi Bridge, as well as the reconstruction of roads in Gwale Local Government Area. Additional approvals covered renovation of government offices, upgrades at the NYSC orientation camp in Kusalla and construction works at other public facilities.
For agriculture and water resources, the Council approved about ₦3.5bn for the procurement of over 41,000 bags of fertiliser, alongside investments in irrigation and institutional infrastructure. It also approved ₦3.48bn for the rehabilitation of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, as well as funding for boreholes and utility services.
Environmental interventions, including urban beautification, solar-powered boreholes and drainage improvement projects, also received approval.
In the area of urban development, the Council approved funds for compensation on land acquisition, road projects and the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic. It also approved multi-billion-naira projects for street naming, mapping and house numbering under Phase II of the state’s urban planning programme.
Other approvals include special intervention projects across 15 local government areas, settlement of staff entitlements at Aliko Dangote University, procurement of ICT equipment for government communication, as well as empowerment programmes for butchers and logistics support for Hajj operations.
Waiya assured that all projects would be implemented in line with due process and accountability.
“The approvals underscore government’s unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and overall socio-economic development of Kano State,” he said.
He added that the Council also took note of recent awards and recognitions received by the governor, saying they reflected the impact of ongoing reforms and leadership direction.
