Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained a nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the National Democratic Congress.
Abdulaziz is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency of Kano State.
His decision to contest under a different political platform is seen as a significant development, considering his father’s longstanding political influence within the APC.
The aspirant is widely known for his affiliation with the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
A video circulating on social media showed Abdulaziz meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form.
During the meeting, he was said to have briefed the former governor on his intention to contest the seat ahead of the next general election.
The development adds another dimension to the political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, whose relationship turned sour years after they worked together in Kano politics.
Abdulaziz has over the years maintained a political stance different from that of his father and has remained aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement.
His political differences with his family became more pronounced following a public dispute involving his mother, Professor Hafsat Umar Ganduje, whom he reportedly petitioned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged failed agreement.
He is also seeking the same House of Representatives seat contested by his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, under the APC during the 2023 general election.
Umar lost the election to the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party despite Ganduje serving as governor of Kano State at the time.
