President Bola Tinubu has praised the conduct of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary, describing the exercise as peaceful, organised and a strong reflection of internal democracy within the ruling party.
Tinubu spoke with journalists on Saturday after participating in the primary election at Ward E in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The President said the process provided an opportunity for every party member to participate in decision-making at the grassroots level.
“This is politics, grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate. This is to ensure that we have an internal democracy. And it is peaceful and well organised,” he said.
Tinubu also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries across the country, commending APC governors and party officials for ensuring a credible process.
According to him, the exercise was properly coordinated from the ward congresses to delegate accreditation and validation.
“I’m very satisfied. These governors have done well in their various states — from ward congresses and local government congresses to delegate accreditation, validation, members’ register, and certification of the electoral processes. It has been done very well. At least you will score democracy at a high level,” Tinubu stated.
The President further welcomed political competition within the party, noting that challenges from both supporters and opponents would strengthen his leadership.
“To those who support me, I am very excited that they challenge me more,” he added.
