Kano State Government has completed 867 out of 1,557 projects executed across the state in the last three years of Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.
The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, disclosed this on Sunday at a press conference in Kano.
Ma’aji said the completed projects represented 55.68 per cent of the total projects, while 654 projects, or 42 per cent, were still ongoing.
He added that 26 projects, representing 1.66 per cent, were at the award stage, while 10 others, representing 0.64 per cent, had been planned and were ready for award.
According to him, the projects have a combined contract value of N996.29 billion.
He said N695.20 billion had been approved through No Objection Certificates, while payment certificates worth N444.75 billion had been vetted by the ministry.
Ma’aji said the projects were spread across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas, with 598 projects worth about N299.36 billion located in the eight metropolitan LGAs.
He said the 36 rural LGAs had 653 projects valued at approximately N287.90 billion.
The commissioner added that projects covering multiple LGAs were valued at about N159.50 billion, while statewide and other projects accounted for approximately N249.54 billion.
“Depending on the government’s distribution of projects, the figures demonstrate that rural development remains a major component of the administration’s investment programme.
“This shows that the government’s development agenda extends beyond the metropolitan area to include rural roads, healthcare facilities, schools, housing, feeder roads and other essential infrastructure,” he said.
On major projects, Ma’aji listed the mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu LGA, awarded at about N113.19 billion.
Others include the N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion, N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure programme, N27.74 billion Madobi–Yako–Kafin Maiyaki/Kiru Road intervention and the N22 billion Rural Model City Project covering the 36 rural LGAs.
The commissioner said the payment figure represented certificates vetted by the ministry and covered ongoing, recently awarded and planned projects.
He assured that the government would continue to monitor project execution, address implementation challenges and ensure prudent use of public funds.
“The government remains committed to ensuring that these investments translate into measurable improvements in the lives of the teeming citizens and residents alike.
“At this ministry, we will continue to ensure that projects are monitored from procurement through implementation to completion and that payment certification is linked to verified project execution,” he said.
Ma’aji said the figures showed that Kano was implementing a large-scale development programme, with substantial progress recorded on completed projects while others remained under implementation.
