The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for alleged drug dealing in Ilisan, Ogun State.
The agency also intercepted cocaine concealed in edible cassava fufu and seized two containers of synthetic cannabis, known as Loud, worth over N4.4 billion at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, Ogunmabo was arrested on August 15 with 90 grammes of skunk packaged in retail sachets.
The woman reportedly told operatives that she took to drug peddling after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire and that her daughter supplied her with the substance.
Babafemi said NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd), directed that the centenarian be granted bail and counselled due to her age, while her daughter was arrested.
In Akwa Ibom, operatives intercepted a wooden boat carrying illicit drugs to fishing settlements in Cameroon, arresting three suspects and recovering 42.622kg of narcotics.
One of the suspects, 27-year-old Kingsley Effiong John, was found with 20 grammes of cocaine concealed in a wrap of fufu and 435 grammes of skunk.
At the Lagos ports, operatives recovered 1,090.5kg of Loud concealed in a container declared to contain legitimate goods at Apapa, while another 400kg was seized from a container at Lekki Deep Sea Port.
Other seizures included 24,410 tramadol pills intercepted along the Enugu-Zuba route, 10,000kg of skunk destroyed at a cannabis farm in Ondo, and 1.325kg of methamphetamine and cannabis recovered in Kwara.
A 65-year-old woman was also arrested in Ibadan with 4.68kg of Loud, tramadol, codeine syrup, diazepam and flunitrazepam.
NDLEA said further arrests and seizures were recorded in Kano, Seme in Lagos and Abia State.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in several states.
Marwa commended the operatives and urged them to sustain their efforts against illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
