Kano Governor Appoints New Chief of Staff, DG Special Services

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani, mni, as the new Chief of Staff, Government House, and Major General Mohammed Sani (Rtd.) as the Director General of Special Services.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

“This appointment marks the restoration of the Office of the Chief of Staff, which was scrapped in December 2024. His Excellency believes this restructuring is essential for the coordination and efficiency of government operations,” the statement read.

Dr. Sani, a medical doctor and retired Permanent Secretary, has served in the civil service for over four decades. He was formerly Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters.

He studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, holds a diploma from Bayero University, Kano, and is a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

He previously headed Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano. He also served as Director General in the Ministries of Health and Commerce, and as Permanent Secretary in several state agencies.

“Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani has a proven track record in civil service reform, health policy, and public administration. He has contributed significantly to both state and national policy development,” the statement added.

In a separate appointment, Major General Mohammed Sani (Rtd.), a retired infantry officer, was named Director General of Special Services. He served in various command and staff roles in the Nigerian Army and participated in peacekeeping and conflict resolution missions.

“Major General Sani’s wealth of experience in security and strategic operations will add tremendous value to the state government, especially in today’s challenging security landscape,” the spokesperson stated.
