Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has so far paid ₦22 billion out of the ₦48 billion owed to retirees and families of deceased civil servants.
The payments, made in four tranches, aim to address the backlog of entitlements that many former workers and their families have waited years to receive.
A statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that the latest release of ₦6 billion is the fourth since Yusuf took office.
“Governor Yusuf remains resolute in his pledge to pay every kobo owed to our retirees and the families of our late civil servants,” the statement said.
The breakdown shows ₦5 billion was released in the first tranche, followed by ₦6 billion in the second and third, and another ₦6 billion in the fourth.
“This intervention is part of the Governor’s broader agenda to address long-standing liabilities,” the spokesperson added.
The statement also noted that the payments are easing financial pressure on the affected families.
“No pensioner or bereaved family will be left behind,” the Governor was quoted as saying.
Governor Yusuf said the remaining ₦26 billion will be settled over time.
