Muhammad Babandede, the 16th Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has marked the third anniversary of his departure from the service.
Babandede, who held the position from May 15, 2016, to his retirement, celebrated this milestone with a reflective post on his verified Twitter (X) page today, Saturday.
In his post, Babandede expressed gratitude, stating, “Today is exactly 3 years since I was officially pulled out from Nigeria Immigration Service as the 16th CGI. TIME FLIES!!! I sincerely thank God for the opportunity to serve.”
Babandede’s career with the NIS began in 1985 as an Assistant Superintendent, following his participation in the 12th Cadet Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano.
His tenure as Comptroller General was marked by reforms, including the digitisation of passport operations, the introduction of a paperless administration, and the decentralisation of passport issuance. Additionally, he introduced the Visa-on-Arrival policy, which received widespread acclaim.
Babandede succeeded Martin Abeshi in his role and leaves behind a legacy of modernization and efficiency in the NIS.
