Former Kano State Commissioner of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, returned home after a successful screening and was confirmed as a federal minister by the Nigerian Green Chamber.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, along with her family, friends, and political associates, arrived in her hometown amidst a mammoth crowd of APC members and well-wishers on Saturday.

She was accompanied by the APC women leader of the Kano State chapter, Hajiya Fatima Dala, former State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Professor Isa Yahaya, and the Chairman of Bunkure local government, among others.

Kano Times reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure from Kano State for an appointment as a minister, making her the second woman from northern Nigeria’s most populous state to hold the position since 1999.

Mrs. Mahmud replaced another woman and her schoolmate, Maryam Shettima, on the list as one of the two nominees from Kano State.
