Concerned with the rising inflation in Nigeria, which has resulted in a high increase in the prices of commodities daily, traders have resorted to prayers to seek God’s intervention in Kano state.
Nigeria’s inflation rate as of December 2023 stood at 28.92 percent and has been on the rise for 11 consecutive months.
The growing concerns of Nigerians about the skyrocketing prices of commodities and services in the country are evident.
In a viral video, a group of traders was seen performing a special prayer at Kantin Kwari market, in Kano state, the biggest textiles market in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
The video was believed to be recorded on Wednesday while the prayer was being performed by the concerned traders at Bayajidda Street in Kantin Kwari market in the Kano metropolis.
In the 1:45″ long footage, a voice of a man, believed to be a trader in the market, which houses over 30,000 shops, was heard saying they resorted to the special prayer session to seek Allah’s intervention in the critical situation in the country.
The voice said they performed the prayer to find solace from Allah over the economic turmoil bedeviling Nigeria.
The voice lamented that prices of commodities had skyrocketed in the country, saying, “Today, the smallest piece of wrapper is N8,000, while Atampa Rubber is N3,000.”
The man in the video called on all Nigerians to emulate the traders by turning to God to seek His help to bring solace to the people.
“Today, we decided to hold this special prayer session to seek Allah’s intervention in this critical situation we have found ourselves in.
“We are here at Bayajidda Street in Kantin Kwari market. We are doing this prayer to serve as a ‘sample’ to other Nigerians. All Nigerians, not just Kantin Kwari or Kano alone, all citizens should turn to Allah for His intervention.
“Today, the price of the smallest piece of wrapper is N8,000. Atampa Rubber is N3,000. A 50kg bag of sugar and rice is N70,000 each. This situation calls for Allah’s intervention.
“Our leaders are not fair to us, and Allah will judge you accordingly. You sought our votes. We spent our time under the scorching sun to vote for you and made sure our votes for you counted, but this is the reward we are getting for voting you.
“Our leaders always make false promises and nothing on the ground. You hide under the guise of the American dollar to cheat Nigerians.
“Not only leaders, businessmen are also to blame. They have contributed to our woes. We leave them with God,” the man said.
