The Association for Progressive Communication (APC) and Rhizomatica, working under the Local Network Initiative (LocNet), appointed a prominent digital rights advocate from Kano state, Harira Abdulrahman Wakili, as the Africa Gender Regional Coordinator.
Harira Wakili, who previously worked as a Social Media Officer at the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has a proven track record of fighting for gender equality in the digital space.
At CITAD, Wakili spearheaded initiatives to bridge the digital gender gap, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive online.
Notably, between 2022 and 2023, Wakili collaborated with the British Council, leading the PLANE Accelerated Learning in Literacy and Numeracy program. The program empowered countless individuals with the skills needed to fully participate in the digital world.
Wakili’s commitment is further underscored by her participation in the prestigious African School on Internet Governance as a 2018 fellow.
She is also a Digital Grassroots Ambassador, a title that highlights her dedication to empowering communities at the ground level.
APC’s decision to appoint Wakili underscores their commitment to promoting gender equality within Africa’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
