The National Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajiya Wasila Ladan, has called on the government and security agencies to ensure justice for the victims of the recent Kano mosque explosion.

Ladan made this appeal during her visit to the injured at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

During her visit, Ladan expressed her sympathy to the victims and emphasized the need for swift and appropriate action against the perpetrator responsible for the attack, which was committed against his own blood relatives. She also offered prayers for the deceased and wished for a speedy recovery for those still hospitalized.

Dr. Hussain Muhammad, the Chief Medical Director of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, provided details about the incident. He explained that the explosion occurred last week during the subhi prayer in Gezawa, resulting in severe injuries for many of the victims.

He noted that nearly all of the victims suffered 80-degree burns. Out of the 28 people initially admitted, only eight remain in the hospital.

Dr. Muhammad highlighted that Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is dedicated to improving the welfare of the victims. Efforts include providing free medical treatment, installing additional air conditioners in the wards, and ensuring a sustainable power supply with a new generator. The hospital is also focusing on feeding and other essential needs for the patients.

“The victims currently need support from the public and philanthropists, particularly in the form of blood donations,” Dr. Muhammad emphasized.

Notable figures who have visited the victims include Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Senator Rufai Hanga, Hajiya Amina, former Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi, and various other philanthropists. Their visits have brought attention to the plight of the victims and the need for continued support.
