President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the Director-General of the NIA, while Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the Director-General of the DSS.
The appointments were announced by Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.
In his statement, Ngelale highlighted Ambassador Mohammed’s extensive career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995. Mohammed has held various positions, including his role as head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Mohammed has also served in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.
The new DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, has risen through the ranks to his previous position as Assistant Director-General. Ajayi has served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments follow the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS.
President Tinubu has tasked the new security chiefs with repositioning the two intelligence agencies to address the nation’s security challenges. He emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
“The President thanks the outgoing Directors-General of the two pivotal intelligence agencies for their services to the nation while wishing them success in their future endeavors,” the statement concluded.
