The Nigerian Army has donated a four-block classroom facility to Datti Ahmad Government Secondary School in Wurure, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
Along with the classrooms, the army also rehabilitated an office block and provided 216 classroom furniture as part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Programme.
During the handover ceremony on Saturday in Kano, COAS Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja emphasized that the gesture would foster civil-military relations and improve access to quality education in the state.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Lagbaja explained that the initiative was designed to support communities of senior officers who have risen to the rank of Major General through their dedicated service to the nation.
According to Lagbaja, the project will enhance the academic environment and promote better learning, stating, “The initiative is aimed at eradicating insecurity, boosting the morale of Nigerian Army personnel within communities, and promoting quality education.”
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his confidence in the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, pledging continued loyalty to the president.
The project’s facilitator, Major-General Sani Bashir, noted that the choice of the school was based on the need to create a conducive learning environment for the youth.
Bashir, who is Chief of Defense Communication, added, “It is hoped that the infrastructure provided in my community will inspire both teachers and students to advance their intellectual capacity for national development. This project underscores the Army’s Corporate Social Responsibility in supporting the Kano State Government’s efforts to improve education.”
Brigadier-General Teminere Mackintosh, commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, also commended the COAS for funding the project and giving back to the community.
