NHRC Kano Receives 618 Complaints of Human Rights Abuses

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State reported receiving 618 complaints of alleged human rights abuses from July to the present.

NHRC State Coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Kano. He noted that 480 of the cases had been resolved, while 138 are still pending.

Mr. Abdullahi stated that 346 of the complaints pertained to women and children, 75 involved breaches of trust, and 50 related to spousal responsibilities. Additionally, he highlighted that 60 cases were filed regarding abandonment of family responsibilities and domestic violence.

“No fewer than 52 cases were related to labor, land properties, and cultural, economic, and social rights,” he said. Abdullahi further detailed that the remaining 35 complaints primarily concerned labor disputes, particularly issues between employers and employees regarding end-of-service entitlements and compensation for on-duty accidents.

The coordinator also mentioned that the commission had mediated in several marital disputes between couples and families. He urged couples to practice patience with one another to better manage their shared responsibilities. NAN
