A former Governor of Adamawa State and Senator, Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated July 21 and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Kollere Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Jibrilla said his decision to leave the party was based on political and personal considerations.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective 21st July 2025,” he wrote.
Jibrilla, who governed Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019, said his time in the PDP gave him “valuable insights into grassroots mobilization and enhancing our democratic process.”
“While I deeply respect the party’s legacy, I feel it is time for me to pursue other political and personal commitments aligned with my current priorities,” he added.
Although he did not disclose his next move, the resignation has triggered speculation about a possible switch to another political platform.
“I wish the PDP continued success in its mission to serve the Nigerian people and strengthen our democracy,” he concluded.
The PDP in Adamawa State has not yet issued a formal response. Internal consultations are said to be ongoing.
Recalls that Bindow was elected as governor of Adamawa State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) between 2015 and 2019, but was defeated by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election.
He also dumped the APC in January 2023, saying he had enough of the unseriousness of the party’s executives. He added that the high-handedness of some party members in the state and in Abuja had turned the APC into a mockery of itself.
