The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two women and a 35-year-old fish seller over an alleged attempt to engage in immoral acts in the state.
The Director of Public Enlightenment of the board, Auwalu Sheshe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Sheshe said the suspects were apprehended during a raid carried out at Sheikh Muhammad Nasiru Kabara Housing Estate, popularly known as Bandirawo Housing Estate, along Daura Road in Kano.
According to him, the operation was led by Hafizu Garba Adakawa, during which officials arrested a woman identified as Khadija Ahmad, a 30-year-old indigene of Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He added that operatives also found a 35-year-old fish seller, Ali Abubakar of the Kano Cooperative area, alongside his female companion, Fatima Abubakar, a 28-year-old woman from the Niger Republic, inside one of the rooms allegedly preparing to engage in immoral conduct.
“During interrogation, Khadija stated that the apartment she occupied with her children had been lent to her and that she occasionally rented out rooms for prostitution in exchange for payment,” the statement read.
“She explained that the owner of the house had travelled to Egypt and noted that she was not the only person involved in such activities within the neighbourhood.”
The board said the suspects claimed it was their first involvement in such an act, pleaded for forgiveness and promised not to repeat the offence.
Sheshe further disclosed that the suspects were arraigned before a court presided over by Malam Sani Tanimu Hausawa within the premises of the Hisbah Board.
He reiterated the board’s commitment to curbing immoral activities and maintaining moral standards across Kano State.
