Troops of the 1 Brigade, under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have reported killing several terrorists, including a notorious kingpin identified as Alhaji Ma’oli, in Zamfara.
This was revealed in a statement on Friday.
The operation, which took place on December 26 in Maisheka village, near Kunchin Kalgo town in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA), targeted Ma’oli’s stronghold. “The area is one of the local communities that has suffered under Ma’oli’s reign of terror,” the statement noted.
Ma’oli was notorious for imposing illegal levies on residents of Unguwan Rogo, Mai Sheka, Magazawa, and other surrounding areas in Bilbis, Tsafe LGA. “The neutralisation of Ma’oli has brought relief and excitement to locals in the Bilbis general area,” the statement added.
The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated terrorists on motorcycles operating in the Bilbis axis of Bilbis District, Tsafe LGA. “Swift response by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma not only thwarted the terrorists’ plan to attack the locals but also reinforced the commitment to securing the area from further acts of violence,” the statement emphasized.
The Joint Task Force reiterated its determination to continue neutralising all remaining terrorists and their collaborators across the theatre of operation. “Operation Fansan Yamma remains resolute in its mandate to pursue and neutralise all remaining terrorists and their collaborators across the Joint Task Force Theatre of Operation.”
The statement further assured that the Joint Task Force would work closely with local communities to ensure lasting peace and security in Zamfara and beyond.
